Let me also add that we discussed in the boxee forums that it's believed to be
a Snow
Leopard-only issue...

sometime you need to force a recovery boot using the IR remote to get the
appletv to check for a USB device.
did you try this ?

I tried booting now by pressing menu - but it still does not show the Penguin.
It
looks to me as if it doesnt check for a usb device... wierd

no, nothing wrong with your appletv, something is not correct with the
patchstick, either in creation or the USB
drive itself. Just for grins, can you try the previous verison (b12) ? you
don't have to re-download the dmg, if you
move boot.efi to the staging dir, it will skip the dmg download.

"if you move boot.efi to the staging dir, it will skip the dmg download." this
part
was a bit over my head:) Do you mean create the patchstick with version b12
using the
same 2Z694-6013-013.dmg-file?

Same issue - I've tried the new version (b13) and the previous version (b12). I
created the patchstick on Mac OS
10.5.8 on a Powerbook. AppleTV version 3.0.2
At this point, I think I may try a different USB drive.

I found a thread discussing drives that worked/didn't. Kingston drives were
mentioned several times as bad;
