Failed First Time - Advice Needed #604

Apple TV 1st Gen 160GB
Firmware 3.0.2

Successfully booted off of patchstick but didn't go any further than "Starting 
Linux"  

Rebooted to Apple TV fine - Just nervous about doing again
Also my hard drive is about 50% full (80GB) 
Is it recommended to do a factory wipe/restore before doing the patch?

For what it's worth - I used a different USB drive, re-downloaded the entire 
project and started from scratch again.  This time it loaded without any issue. 
 If successful make sure you download the xbmc/boxee programs afterward since 
they are not included in the download.
