Cant FTP into ATV1 #632

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Created USB stick using atv win 3.0 from 
http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/
2. reset & updated ATV1 to 3.0.2 firmware & installed via usb stick
3. updated the installer, then installed xbmc Eden 11, try to ftp into atv1 but 
all i get is network error

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Using Win7 pc, putty, atv usb 3.0, apple atv1 with 3.0.2

Please provide any additional information below.

FTP error via putty = network error / connection refused. I can ping the IP of 
the ATV, surf trailers etc via internet, sync to itunes on my pc & watch movies 
via xbmc from shared folders.

Any assistance or direction to what I'm doing wrong very appreciated.

Tried this on 2 different ATV1 units with same results.
