Delivered thesis summary presentation to Berenice and Anika
Received feedback and answered questions about the topic
Gave Berenice the thesis registration form for Dr. Backofen to sign
It was suggested that I create a grid of conditions (e.g. population up, mutation down, etc.) vs. the effect (e.g. genome size change, number of genes, evolvability, etc.) with the various research papers in the cells. The point would be to see whether my experiments confirm, deny, or are inconclusive regarding what the research says.
I was given a further suggestion for a paper to read (Knibbe, 2007)
Discussed changing the parameters by more than a factor of 4
100x mutation rate?
15x rearrangement rates?
To be discussed with Guillaume after the analysis of one condition is completed
Suggested to read Berenice's summary of prochlorococcus to try to connect my results to real-world bacteria.
Suggested to look briefly at the idea of the "minimal cell"
Brian's To Do
[ ] Read Kniebbe (2007) - A Long-Term Evolutionary Pressure on the Amount of Noncoding DNA
[x] Create Google Doc for keeping track of work completed, for my records and for Berenice & Anika
[x] Create the above-mentioned research table for keeping track of the literature and predicting results of the experiments
[x] Transfer the contents of the presentation to the report
[ ] Start analysis of one condition (Mutation Up)
[x] Continue experiments on the cloud
Berenice's To Do
[ ] Have Dr. Backofen sign Brian's thesis registration form
