The general goal of the experiments will be to see which condition(s) lead to a reduction in the genome of simulated bacteria.
Experiment Outline
Start with 3 wild type organisms
For each of the wild types, create two population types: a baseline population and a test population, each with X (10,000?) organisms.
Both population types will be allowed to continue to evolve for another X (100,000? 1,000,000?) generations.
The baseline populations will be allowed to evolve as in the initial conditions (i.e. no changes in the conditions from the initial creation of the wild types).
The test populations will be subjected to differing conditions:
Varying number of genes
Varying lengths of genes
Different selection pressure
etc.
The baseline populations will be compared to the test populations to determine which conditions lead to a change (reduction?) in:
