Another weird wording. Why not just:

This plot describes how reads are distributed across genes, distinguishing between low-complexity libraries...

There is substantial variability in library complexity among cells in this case study dataset.

Add a reference back to Figure 2a, which has probably been forgotten at this point.

For example, there is substantial variability in library complexity among cells in the case study dataset in Figure 2a.
