Investigate Merseyrail announcements #32

Open davwheat opened 1 year ago

davwheat commented 1 year ago

Also on the topic of Julie Berry, they do the announcements on Merseyrail, so that could be a new announcer. There are some differences between the announcements on the Class 507/8s and the new 777s, but they are only minor, like new 'this is' announcements etc. See these videos for info (not mine): Class 777: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiion1dZBT8 Class 507/8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eps84A0W_9o&t=0s

This could be very helpful, however, the filenames don't mean anything. Wonder if Merseytravel has a 'map' of some thought.

Oh, I'm quite used to not having meaningful filenames... I have spent many days listening to files and manually renaming them, which is probably how #31 happened.

privatedev11 commented 1 year ago

Ah ok, that's good. I was looking through them earlier, and notices some station announcements have the CRS code but some have something random (e.g. Southport's CRS code is SOP, but the file is something like PT)

I've pushed the 777 announcements here: https://github.com/Rail-Announcements/merseyrail-class-777

Map.docx Just threw a word document together for a guide, thanks to @LX9702 for the announcement names!

LX9702 commented 10 months ago

And for Class 507/508 that has been mentioned in #31, I think I can provide them? Since I got all station name, next station announcements, approaching announcements, interchange/leave the train here for... announcements and so on.

Out of interest, did you record them yourself? If not, where did you get them? Massive Merseyrail nerd here haha

GTRspotter commented 10 months ago

What is going to happen with these files?

davwheat commented 10 months ago

What do you mean?

GTRspotter commented 10 months ago

Like are they going to be put on the website or if you need extra help

davwheat commented 10 months ago

I'll happily take transcription contributions to https://github.com/Rail-Announcements/merseyrail-class-777, provided they follow my CSV standard (else they're essentially unusable as I'm not renaming every file manually).

No timeline for when they'll go on the site.

GTRspotter commented 10 months ago

So would you like me to rename them or anything else?

davwheat commented 10 months ago

Just transcriptions if you're offering. I have a script that would use the CSV to rename the files automatically.

If you need me to generate an empty CSV in the right format, let me know.

GTRspotter commented 10 months ago

What transcriptions need sorting out?

davwheat commented 10 months ago

I've generated and uploaded the CSVs to the Merseyrail repository: https://github.com/Rail-Announcements/merseyrail-class-777

Don't bother with the stations one as that's easy to work out.

GTRspotter commented 10 months ago

Thank you

Should I keep the punctuation marks, or should I remove all of them?

davwheat commented 10 months ago

Don't include punctuation as it can mess up the spreadsheet a bit (and do it in lowercase if you can, too).

LX9702 commented 10 months ago

Ok!

Also, should I keep the white space? Or I need to change it into underscore (_) or even delete them.

Whitespace should be kept as-is
