I try installing the latest version through edit>preferences>addons select the plugin file and nothing happens. this issue also happened with the previous version. i just can't seem to install this addon! sorry but documentation is not clear enough. are we supposed to extract the contents of the zip file? because i don't know what else to do. also tried installing through Daz central but nothing happens.

some help is appreciated. thanks

Sorry, I think you are confusing the Daz Studio plugin with the Blender plugin. The zip file on the github release page is a Daz Studio Plugin and can be installed like any Daz Studio plugin (unzip the DLL and place it in your Daz Studio plugins folder).

However, you should NOT need to do that, since the Daz Central installer will do that for you. Instead, please read the instructions that can be found directly on the main github page for DazToBlender: https://github.com/daz3d/DazToBlender#3-how-to-install

If these step-by-step instructions are confusing for you, then please refer to the series of youtube videos that I have posted on the Daz Forums that show every single step from starting up Daz Central to starting Daz Studio to starting Blender. Hopefully, seeing the actual steps will make things much clearer for you. Good luck!

That answer is completely beside the point, this is not about installation in DAZ, it's about installation in Blender. I downloaded the source, zipped the Blender addon and tried to import. Had the same problem as @Euclois : Addon does not show up in Blender, cannot be installed. Installation in DAZ was no problem. installation documentation on the DAZ website is inconsitent and reads like it was written by a person that has no clues about Blender.

Xanathon, it's clear that you are a hard-working professional that is very upset that the DazToBlender bridge is not doing what you want it to do. I'm sorry you are having such a frustrating experience. Please try to be respectful of everyone here, since that is the best way for you to get what you want done.

As I commented previously, you should not need to install the Blender plugin manually. Instead, the DazStudio-component of the DazToBlender Bridge has an embedded Blender plugin installer in the Advanced Settings section which will install the plugin. Please see the step-by-step directions linked here:

If you still wish to manually install the Blender plugin, then please keep these things in mind:

Good luck

Please don't be cocky.

Since I am not new to these things I did exactly that: I navigated the code structure to the Blender addon folder and zipped the content of the DTB folder. I zipped only the content and I zipped it including the folder, but neither works. Absolutely no installation happens.

My frustration results from the months and years of being ignored here with multiple iterations of multiple DCC versions of the plugins that had heaps of bugs and faulty implementations that were never fixed.

If this now was given to new developers: good, I hope something comes from it. So far the support for the bridges was horrible, as one would expect from DAZ.

Automatic installation does not work, since I have nonstandard instalation of Blender and when using the installation methode described that does not install the addon into the correct place. You should at least offer the option for the users to choose the installation path themselves.
