Areas needing urgent flavour #132

Open db0 opened 2 years ago

db0 commented 2 years ago

The below all have provisional names and stories.

Feel free to send PRs or leave comments here.

Torments

These need a name and a context.

Almost all Torments need an in-ordeal description

Non-Combat Encounters

These needs intros and outros and generally fluff improvements

All other NCEs need expanded fluff as well, something more than one sentence of text.

Curios

These need a thematic name and a fitting icon

Also any artifact still using "perspective-dice-six-faces-random.png" as icon, needs a better one.

Memories

These need a thematic name

Also, all Memories at the moment need icons

Unnamed Enemy 1 holds a grudge. The word "grudge" is apparently a variant of "grutch" which itself is a delicious word and would make for a cool name. I also quite like "Grocken", it sounds toady and fantastical. The Wiktionary page lists several other etymological roots which offer plenty of inspirational material:

Name "Grutch", with an avatar of a broken crutch. Perhaps the dreamer knocked someone down or injured them in some way and they bear a grudge in the dreamworld. Name "Murmuration" with the graphic of a starling bird; mumuration is their collective noun. Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" springs to mind; they sure bore a grudge. Name "Groken", avatar of a frog or toad. Or if you want to go Weird, those wellington boots with frog eyes on the toes! Apparently as a child I took delight in stepping on frogs :-( If they came to haunt me in my dreams I'd probably deserve it and if they were those boots...that'd be wtf for sure. n.b. I was not an evil child, am now an animal lover, pls do not hurt amphibifriends. One "bears" a grudge, so perhaps it could have a bear avatar. I'd usually associate the bear with strong and mighty attributes through, and the Torment doesn't seem overly tanky (compared to, say, Pialephant). That being said, I have always found this Torment an easy opponent. Maybe it needs some teeth. "Grudgement" is a derived term and is similar to "judgement", which is thematic. An avatar of a gavel which subjects the dreamer to grudgement because of their past sins.

Brain dump re: shop fluff.

Since repressed Loneliness dictates the shop frequency, the shop could be an encounter with a friend. "It's been a while since we caught up!" Having a heart-to-heart with a friend means discovering new viewpoints and opinions on dealing with troubling circumstances. Hence new cards. Curios are given by the friend to help along the journey. "Just don't ask where I found them". We're reminded of Memories by our friends. "Remember that time you made a zip line in the yard?". We can then take that Memory with us through the dream and use it against ordeals.

"I tried to Concentrate but it wasn't good enough", I said. "I find that sitting near a ticking clock helps me concentrate." she replied. This is why cards can be upgraded by meeting the friend.

Forgetting cards is a way of a friend taking a load off our shoulders. But we wouldn't want to burden them with too many problems at once...

Just a note about curio names. I tend to use nouns as their concept, rather than verbs or adjectives. So "Plumped Pillows" works, but "Thoughtful" doesn't. Verbs and Adjectives tend to be cards instead.

Curios = Things that your find

Cards = Things that you do

I took all suggestions except the resist* stuff, as they don't really fit the effects they're resisting. I originally chose Encyclopedia for ResistDoubt, on the theme that "knowledge dispells doubt"
