Requirement

The solution shall record methodology and aberrations from it on a survey (site visit) level to allow analysts to determine possible biases of data collection.

Use cases

• Surveying hatchling fan angles under time pressure means that possibly only nests with fan angles are recorded. The survey metadata needs to note whether there was saturation sampling or a subset, or a biased subset.
• Survey X aims to follow well-documented methodology Y, but encounters problem Z and therefore changes steps A of methodology to B. The observer has a way to record these changes as structured (choice fields with defined options in drop-down menus) as possible and as unstructured (comments, photos) as necessary.

Implementation

Site Visit Start and End forms have a free text field for comments about irregularities. The protocol is matured to the point where most data collectors follow the protocol without introducing bias.
