PROVI is too close to Pro-vie (French anti-abortion movement).
So maybe
PRIVO: PRIvately Verifiable PROtests
Another option is "PROVIM: PRivate PROtest Verification IMproved". Maybe this is more suitable for a follow-up paper.
I changed the title to reflect that it's the count/participation that's verifiable. Here are some more acronym suggestions. I think I like crocus best. APPROVERS: Accounting for Privacy-Preserving Protest Participation, Verifiably and Securely CROCUS Crowd Counting Under Surveillance: A Protocol for Privacy-Preserving Verifiable Protest Participation CONVERSE: Counting iNdividuals Verifiably and Securely or Counting Crowds aNonymously, Verifiably, and Securely
+1 on CROCUS
CROCUS is also evocative of grass-roots movements and POTUS, the president of the united states.
CROC or CROCS S for Society.
CROCUS: Crowd-Counting Using Smartphones.
There is a paper published in AsiaCCS 2009 that uses the name Crocus.
Cristina said there are some companies called Crocus too: Crocus Technology making magnetic sensors and the Crocus Project for holocaust education.
Maybe CR2OCUS: CRyptographic CROwd Counting Using Smartphones
Alternatives:
PROVI: "PROVable and PRIvate PROtests" or "PROtests which are Verifiable and PRIvate" or "PROvably PRIVate PROtests".
