Indeed this would be really useful. How confident are you on the dead links (or how did you measure them)?
Preferably you could make a pull request removing the dead links from the datasets you mention.
I examined the HTTP response header of the URLs one by one and inserted them into a relational database. I also logged the timeStamp in order to keep the history of checking. The results were evaluated manually and classified based upon the type of error. There are four types of errors: The data don't exist in the target, the target is unreachable, the target is temporary down, and timeout error.
We are publishing our work in a Journal.
