sorry, I did not find the instructions to compile/test the library

I don't have this my head but I suspect this function is in fact missing by design. To make sure users do not start performing their own level logic at the source level.

This lacks a well spelled out rationale for the change. I'm closing this. Feel free to open an issue for discussing this if you have one.
