Hi David, @dc42

I built a clone IR-sensor from the schematics you provided. It sort of works, but I think I have to do some calibration before I get decent results. Is there any calibration instruction available, you can provide me with, please?

I realized that the calibration data are never read back from EEPROM, so perhaps this calibration thing is not used at all.
