The work in this repository is a moving target and right now, so is the open call for comments, with Nov 15th deadline, on the document "Draft Recommendation: Supporting ORCID in repository systems".

See: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14nKwsdoPWCTbuCasjCrzxxxAeeh0BxdMTsXvw62LgmU/edit#

In cases where the approaches are not aligned, it would be really interesting to isolate where the different points of view are.

For starters, and potentially a big issue, is that ORCID currently differentiates between "authenticated" and "non-authenticated" use of the ORCID IDs. If you're going to express that in DC, you are making an assumption that the harvester will know what that means. It's likely problematic, because this specific approach in ORCIDS can likely not be generalized for other pids.

Apologies if i'm saying something stupid here, feel free to correct ;)

I think ORCID has concerns which go beyond the use of the ORCID as a PID. They are ant to also provide metadata services to the users of those PIDs. My initial reaction to this is to suggest that that the “authentication” of PIDs (and it is not entirely clear to me what that means) is out of scope of the DCMI concern here.

I would welcome other views on this.
