Adding METAR in UI #2621

It would be great to have a METAR in the UI for flight/mission planning based on the upcoming weather for the turn. Maybe a popup when you click on the weather conditions so that the UI layout does not need to be altered too much?

Could you provide more info on what exactly you want? We already have weather, temperature, and wind speed displayed in Liberation. Are you asking for more information (humidity, barometric pressure, cloud height, etc) or that existing information be presented in a standardised format? What do you wish to use the information for?

i would like to support chump's request. maybe i can explain. weather is a crucial part of flight planning, has always been. right now, we get some weather data during planning in liberation's UI, but important information is missing: exact visibility and ceiling (latter available as tooltip); temperature is actually only available on the kneeboard as far as i can see..."fog" is too rough, as it makes a huge practical difference, if visibility is 3000m or 150m.

why is this important? because visibility and ceiling will govern many flight planning decisions: o possible missions (no point doing CAS in fog) o weapon types (dumb bombs require fair visibility; laser guided require high ceilings, etc.) o approach types available (visual/case 1 or ILS required? -> possible alternate airfields) o required fuel/bingo (case 3 means more fuel required to hold till EAT)

o temperature: if very high impacts take-off performance (as does pressure if low), which impacts possible payload, especially at high airfield elevations; if low (with moisture in the air) implies icing (as far as modeled in DCS)

also, the presentation could be improved towards a more typical (professional) aviation format. chump has that ready to be implemented: a lean METAR providing all relevant data in the correct notation, e.g. wind direction FROM (as opposed to TO). the METAR could also be implemented into the kneeboard. this would take just one line (most of the time i guess), instead of currently 3 lines.

in case it hasnt become obvious yet, i am a huge fan of liberation, and i think improving weather reporting would give this fantastic addon another edge : )
