audit AI defensive behaviors #767

Describe the bug I only own the P51 so I don't know if it applies to other cases, but, if I intercept fighters on a bombing mission (verified with bf109, fw190a/d) they do not drop their load but dogfight anyway ...

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior: Check the attached libearation and miz files. Fly with the first P51 flight and intercept the Bf109. They will dogfight with their (BIG) bombs on.

Expected behavior Either the intercepted flight should try to evade or if they turn to fight they should drop their loadout.

Version information (please complete the following information):

Additional context Maybe this is a DCS issue? Perhaps something to add in the AI action list?

Just checked and indeed on waypoint zero there is "restrict jettison (on)" as a waypoint action ... so, is this behavior intended!?

If the AI dropped their weapons every time an enemy got near nothing would ever happen. I don't think the DCS AI is capable of changing course to avoid contact. I think your choices here are status quo or completely ignore the threat and continue on while under attack.

Are you not planning escorts for your packages? The escorts should be engaging before the strike flight is threatened.

Realistically, yes, I'd drop my load if I was intercepted.

Well, these were not my packages, its enemy planes we are talking about. These enemy packages were without escort.

@DanAlbert Is this something we want to/can address or should it be closed out and left as-is?

DanAlbert commented 3 years ago

I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done that doesn't result in the AI never succeeding at a ground attack mission ever again, but I haven't played with it. Worth keeping until someone can confirm that.
