hello robapolo !
thanx for the feedback.
I just don't understand one thing : what icons do you call
"original icons", do you mean the "balloon" ones?
tell me :)

Hi!
Well by "original icons" I mean those that are included by default when you
create a map in google maps.
Including but not limited to the "ballons". There is a "coffee cup", also a
restaurant sign and other icons.
Also in the first page of this site there is a banner that says something like
"change your old
placemarkers with the new beautiful and meaningful...".
Does that mean that from now on the standard placemarkers will be little
colored boxes?
Thanks for your time!
:)

Hola Robapollo,
First of all me and Nico are in no way associated to Google. We are just two
guys who
spend some of our free time creating icons to anyone who want to put the on
their
maps to make them look better, in our humble opinion.
For why we didn't continue the style of the default Goggle Maps icons the
answers are
many. First of all I personally think they are a little to childish, also they
only
vaguely follow any color-coding for categories and third they are pretty big and
obscure a lot of the map, not to mention that I probably could not even make new
icons in that style... I think our way of doing it using a background shield in
a
color makes it a lot easier to see what type of icon it is and makes the icon
symbol
it self stand out better in a "road sign" type of way. All in all makes the
maps with
out icons stick out in the crowd in a professional, descriptive and of cause
beautiful way! ;-) As for the pins, they are to small to draw any icons in
them.
So, no, the standard Google Maps icons will be there as long as Google want and
if
you are happier using them you should. Me and Nico will in the mean time
continue to
build our own collection and share it with anyone who feels that they better
suit
their Maps.
So this is my own humble opinion. Thank you for sharing your point of view
anyway.
Kind regards,
Matthias (www.myBCN.es)

Thanks for the comments.
I appretiate your work a lot, and I will be using some of the great icons
you've
kindly shared with us.
As for my website, I'll be sharing the link with you because I read in a post
that
you guys were listing all sites that use your icons. (http://www.enmty.com)
The website is still in a very very early development stage as you'll be able
to
notice if you open it.
Anyways, thanks again for your time and effort in designing the icons!
Ernesto
