@carolyncanoe I've assigned this to you. Lets work hard towards getting the information we need on the website so you can go crazy and get some money flowing.

2004 Sponsors

ddrinka commented 7 years ago

From @carolyncanoe (thanks for the details Carolyn): It isn’t a one person job. I can only help out (prefer not to be considered in charge) as I will be in Colorado in June and in Africa in August. This is a great fund raising opportunity for our club. It would be awesome if everyone helps in this area as they are able. Since folks do not really donate money to the club, taking the time and finding others to donate “money” or whatever is a great way to give back to the club. Folks can modify and drop off a sponsorship letter to many places in their neighborhood. In the past, grocery stores, have given gift cards when you ask for food for volunteers that will be working the event and restaurants will give food or coupons for free food. If we get too many gift cards, then polo players can buy them and then we can take the cash and put these toward the supplies for the goals or sell them in the silent auction. Hotels (Driskoll donated a free hotel night to the silent auction one year), of course outdoor shops, or any businesses are possibilities. Folks have gone to their workplace and gotten money donated. The list can go on and on.

People can inquire in stores/businesses they frequent or pass buy and/or just put where they have dropped off a sponsorship letter in the google spreadsheet and then continue to follow through with it until they receive a no. You might get a bunch of no’s but our 2004 Nationals, we had a year notice and many people doing this and we raised $5000 from donations. 2008 was a big one as well. 2012 was harder as we only had 6 months notice when we found out we were going to host Nationals. One gal volunteered to take charge of sponsorship but then disappeared. When I got back from my summer travels, I had a hard time finding her. She basically hadn’t done anything so then we only had less than 4 months to work on it but we did make almost $2000.

Most clubs do not even do this or else do not have any success and they just buy everything including the tournament balls. You can tell this because they don’t have any banners or mention of sponsors. This is why we have all the gear we have and the best club to show for it. One problem for sponsorship is I noticed yesterday that our 501c tax exempt number is not popping up in the search anymore. APC popped up 2 weeks ago when I did a search to verify all my sponsorship links were up to date.https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/exempt/search.php https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/exempt/search.php

The Austin Paddling Club (Austin, TX), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and our tax exempt # is 30115727643.

When you update the austinkayakpolo.org site, please keep the following information on the overall site for the following reasons:

  1. Kids Kayak Polo page: We need to have this so our sponsors can see that we are actively seeking kids, which we are always doing. I updated this and the 4 kids we are referring to is Nick and Ben Porter (began in 2004 at age 14), Andre (came to use shortly after) and James. Maybe we can change the Monday sessions on the Austin Kayak Polo meet up page description to include Beginners/Kids (over ?12)/ Club B.

  2. Club gear page: Cafe Press is here with instructions to find your desired item and get the Aquabats logo on it.

  3. US Clubs page: Alma all the links are active. You can pass on info about lodging/event or whatever to them. The more teams we contact, the more entry fees we can collect (and if we can get them on 2 teams that is more money!). If they don’t have enough players for a team we can place them on a team. (i.e. women, under 21, club B, Open) They do have to follow the canoe polo rules for a club team and those should be mentioned on the 2017 Nationals website page.

  4. publicity and social media page: The more we can put here, our sponsors can see how active we are.

  5. Please keep our history of how our club and how long we have been a club information. Very important too for sponsors to see we have been around awhile.

  6. The polo book was written by our club member Adrian and actually is good reading for all folks along with the basic rules page.

  7. 2012 Nationals: I would like to keep this page on there as well if possible so our past sponsors (hopefully this year as well) can see that we did promote them in the past. This also has our previous t-shirt logo that y’all all liked under t-shirt section as well as on the 2012 Facebook link page.

I attached (see below) some info that we can put on the 2017 Nationals website for now. Doug: What did we decide on team fees for registration- just update that price? We just need our sponsors to see this is a 3 day event with lots of things going on for now (t-shirts, banquet, silent auction, etc) . Just put tentative or more information coming if need be. You can see content from 2012 Nationals page. You can decorate with pictures from 2012 Nationals as all pictures links are on the2012 Facebook page. Certainly include pics with Mikasa balls in them. I think it would be fun to have a 2017 Nationals Facebook page!

Everyone can help with sponsorship stuff!
I created a google spreadsheet for folks to log/track our sponsorship work on. I will share with everyone.

The files are too big so I can't attach them. sent by email

Thanks for everyones help!
