Prompt issue with fresh installation

Hi,

I just installed hishtory on my second laptop and I have an issue with the shell prompt when starting new terminal - it is not showing. It shows when I hit Ctrl+C. It is definitely an issue with source ~/.hishtory/config.sh line that hishtory added to .bashrc because when I comment it out, it all works fine again. Also Ctrl+R is not working but hishtory tquery works fine.

For the reference:

$ hishtory status
hiSHtory: v0.274
Enabled: true

$ python3 --version
Python 3.11.6

$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 23.10 \n \l

but it's actually Kubuntu if that may change anything. I'm using bash as a shell.

Interesting, I just tried install hishtory on a fresh ubuntu VM and I'm not able to reproduce this.

By any chance, could you try adding set -x before the source ~/.hishtory/config.sh and seeing where it is getting stuck with starting? I'm guessing there is some command that is hanging, and set -x should make it possible to see exactly which command is causing the issue.

It looks like it got stuck in some kind of infinite loop. Here is the part of the output and I won't post the entire one because you can easily tell by the number of + at the start of each line that there was a lot of output

What's more important, when I analyzed the beginning of the output, it looks like source ~/.hishtory/config.sh fires up my .bashrc file again and agan and again. This explains the whole thing being an infinite loop but I don't know where it begins.

Ah interesting. My current guess is that for some reason, ~/.hishtory/config.sh is somehow causing an interactive bash shell to get launched, which then causes bashrc to get sourced, and then the hishtory config to get sourced again. But, I'm not sure what could be causing this recursive interactive shell to get triggered. I've installed a full on Kubuntu VM and tried playing around in it and installing a bunch of packages, and I still can't reproduce this.

Can you share this section of the set -x output? Or ideally, the entire thing would be quite helpful (gist.github.com would work perfectly). Ok, I found an issue. After reading your suggestion I started debugging my config and it turned out to be quite simple. I had an alias set alias source="source ~/.bashrc" and it was all fine for years because I wasn't using source in the .bashrc. When hishtory source was added by the installation script, it caused havoc when starting new terminal but the issue was entirely on my side. Already fixed and everything works fine :) Sorry for the false alarm and thanks a lot for your time and help.
