Note that paragraph 5 has the same issue, so I'll fix both at the same time.
Well, the text I proposed is as convoluted than the original text, but without the examples (that probably made it less convoluted). Your text is better, obviously.
As for the "provided by", it was also there, so I kept it. But reading it again, it does not make sense - this works whatever the upstream node does, as long as it implements the spec.
Comment from Cullen: I think I would prefer to keep the explicit example given how much confusion there has been on this but don't feel super strong one way or other about this.
