Barrier in conjunction with "Automatically hide and show the menu bar" on Mac doesn't work reliably #675

Open hiuwo opened 4 years ago

hiuwo commented 4 years ago

Operating Systems

Server: Windows 10 1909 Client: Mac OSX 10.15.3

Barrier Version

2.3.2

Steps to reproduce bug

  1. Set in Mac's System Preferences > General > Check "Automatically hide and show the menu bar"
  2. Use barrier and move cursor (I did by using hotkey) to Mac client screen.
  3. Use mouse to click so that another window is now in focus.
  4. Attempt to conjure menu bar by moving mouse to top of screen.
  5. (for some reason, depending on the window/ app/ order of windows on screen,) Half the time a menu bar won't show.

PS The above also sometimes happens for the Dock too, if Dock > "Automatically hide and show the Dock"

Other info

Work around: Use Command+Tab (twice to refocus; instead of using mouse) onto the desired window, then menu bar will auto show now if step 4 is attempted again. PS actually this issue has been around for a long time in with Synergy, not Barrier-specific.

Thanks for the work-around @hiuwo! I did not know about this and makes the usage of a hidden menu bar a bit more accessible than it is now.

Please don't close this bug report indeed as this is still the case. Thanks in advance :)

Similar/same issue: on a Barrier client running Ubuntu/GNOME with dash-to-dock and set to auto-hide the dock, the dock does not pop up (ever) when moving the mouse to the bottom of the client screen. The workaround is similar to @hiuwo's: pressing the "Super" (aka System or Windows key, like the Mac Command key) brings up the Activities overview and the dock.

This issue is still happening. The popOS/GNOME dock with auto-hide enabled still doesn't work with Barrier.

I was able to solve this problem by running this command here: gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock require-pressure-to-show false

I found this solution here: Post on Reddit
