District Proposal #115: Virtual Reality Shopping District or VRS District #45

Virtual Reality Shopping District has 179 parcels dedicated to it! Wow! (as of Dec. 9th, 2017) image I only had enough to put 10 LAND in it, the remaining 169 has been other community members who have found this project interesting and did the same. Considering VRS District currently sits at #15 out of all districts in the Terraform Event Page, I will be cleaning this up a lot before the New Year and release an official White Paper in late Q1 or early Q2 of 2018. This district will call Decentraland home as the first VR World that we help entrepreneurs create shops in and then District0x platform will be used for our community governance!

image This is a very, VERY rough draft that I just finished depicting the basic idea of the VRS District from a visual standpoint. It would work in tandem with the Decentraland District, of course. Almost like a back-end support-hub.

Title: Virtual Reality Shopping District or VRS District Description: VRS District bridges the gap between Decentraland, district0x and eCommerce store owners by acting as a resource to high-end businesses interested in creating their own Virtual Reality Shop. This District Proposal has the ability to not only bring all projects involved to the next, mainstream level; but will revolutionize ecommerce forever and, ultimately, enhance the shopping experience. Imagine being able to try on a shirt before you have it shipped; sit on a couch in your house before you buy it; or see how you look driving a brand new car? Solves business inefficiencies; creates a more intimate shopping experience; and creates an entirely new type of Virtual Reality foot-traffic - a new experience for all stakeholders. Project Lead: Jonathan Smith Team: So far I am the only one that is committed to this project, but as the Decentraland Terraform event suggests - many District Proposals are probably too early for their own land. I have the plan down - once I get more content out there explaining the vision, I don't see why this won't fit in perfectly. I do have developers I've spoken to that would be interested in at least advising the project. Goal: The goal of VRS District is to revolutionize the businesses sell products and the way consumers purchase them while, in turn, generating revenue for the district and stakeholders in VRS District. That's the main goal, but the secondary goal here is to truly bring the district0x/Decentraland/Aragon joint project to the next level, furthering the development of all facets. Category: Public LAND Needed: 5 to 10 LAND is needed. I plan on an ICO at some point to raise funds to further build out the ecosystem, likely utilizing the funds to find the best way to allow VRS District stakeholders to earn equity in the actual companies coming into VRS District. Startup Costs: So long as I can get the District Proposal through the district0x voting process, the 500k DNT I receive should be enough to build out the district over the short- to mid-term. As I mentioned earlier, we would end up ICOing for funds to build-out. If not ICO/public route, I am connected with enough Venture Capitalists, Angel Investors, and wealthy individuals to garner the $500k it might take to get this to a functional model. VERY rough estimate, but I think barebones and with the support of Decentraland and district0x teams, it's entirely possible.

How will funds be raised: As I mentioned, I'm connected with plenty of wealthy individuals. I know accelerators and incubators would love this and I'm actually in touch with one in Washington D.C. closely. I am an expert on crowdfunding strategy, so if ICO does not work for whatever reason, I'm almost 100% positive I could build out a strategy to raise the funds via a traditional crowdfund.

Also, I have a district0x District Proposal up, #115, that I will receive 500k DNT for if I can garner the votes. I have 34k votes right now and am JUST starting to build out content explaining my vision more clearly and concisely. I also own VRSDistrict.eth, which will be used as the Virtual Shop Registry (VSR), synonymous to Aragon's use of Company.eth, but applied to the development of their store; receiving revenue from sales; and using to vote in the VRS District. I'm sure other uses will emerge as the blockchain technology grows.

How will contributors see a return value: Others would want to participate in this because:

  1. they will directly be part of revolutionizing the way humans shop and sell goods (altruistic);
  2. developers will earn some of the 500k DNT I receive for the proposal passing (votes or cash);
  3. I am giving away 50k of the 500k DNT I receive if the District Proposal passes, proportionate to their staking to VRS District Proposal;
  4. this project can boost the entire Decentraland ecosystem, creating a Minimum Viable Product, attracting the largest, most high-quality companies to the project to have their own products uploaded to Decentraland;
  5. it will increase the value of ALL of our LAND and DNT;
  6. I am utilizing Ethereum's ENS domains (VRSDistrict.eth), strengthening the very blockchain the entire project and partnerships are built and rely on to come to fruition;
  7. backers will receive revenue share from the fees generated from the district charging companies to help get their own VR Shop set up in Decentraland;
  8. the VRS District will be in Decentraland, but expand to other VR Worlds, bringing revenue/fees back to the Decentraland community; and
  9. because I have enough MANA for at least 10 LAND to begin building this out on.

@Spodocomodo - you can buy however much LAND you want to participate :) Even just 1! (1,000 MANA)

@Platosbuilder - this has been on the side since I created it only because I have been VERY busy with other projects and Decentraland/District0x are both going to take some time to get up and running. I just updated the district proposal as we currently have 179 parcels allocated to the VRS District and I will be cleaning this proposal page up quite a bit before the New Year, hopefully get an ICO ANN page style format up here in preparation for the actual ICO which would take place beyond Q2 2018.

Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere! The fact that so much LAND is allocated to this district proposal, I'm in this for the long-haul. The projects I am currently working on should really help out a lot with the development of VRS District as well!

Also, VR technology has some time to go before it is available to the low-level consumer - I am also buying a lot of DNT to vote for the VRS District in the district0x voting, but might be better off just waiting until they open up the district creation to everybody. We'll see, but I am actively in touch with some team members and this project is my little baby for now. After the ICO, there's a good chance I take this on full-time as I will have the funds to give myself a salary and quit my job to build this out.

Stay tuned - I will be building the organizational structure in the background along with the schematic that I will post here!

VRS District Update! 1/8/2017

The Decentraland Terraform Event has concluded and VRS District has a total of 417 parcels of LAND! This isn't much news if you've been following, but the good news is that we have a plotted location for our district! Right against the Red Light District on the Western side of Genesis City.

Some good news is that I have grabbed a piece of land for 4,000ish MANA up against the Bittrex Tomorrow District.

While going through the auction and losing all of my bids, like most of our community, I realized I wasn't going to get as many parcels of LAND as I had anticipated. So I got creative and started thinking about how other parcels of LAND could be allocated near other districts.

I'm not sure if this will even be something we can do or if the community will think it's valuable - but what do you think about using that parcel of LAND against Bittrex Tomorrow District to create a 'Virtual ATM Building'? This would be a way for users to withdraw or deposit from this ATM to and from their MetaMask account which would be in their browser.

The reason this might not work is that I'm not sure how transactions will be processed over the platform. If we're using Decentraland in-browser, it may already integrate with MetaMask to prompt the transaction from inside of Decentraland at the 'virtual ATM.' Or maybe the Decentraland devs make it so that transactions can be done in-world so that you don't need to interact with your browser. I dk yet and this is something I will be researching.

Anyway, I picked up that parcel of LAND against Bittrex Tomorrow and a couple other parcels - one against VRS District between the Red Light District and another in probably 20 squares East of VRS District.

@dogbarker @Platosbuilder @Spodocomodo - here's an update guys!

Sorry I've been so distant - have an ICO I'm currently advising that launches in a couple days and have been gearing up big time for that. Considering the fact that this project heavily hinges on Decentraland, Aragon project AND district0x, I haven't been as active as most other districts. Those projects have quite a few kings to work out before Decentraland is up and ready to begin district building/community management.

As soon as stuff slows down a bit (week or two), I will hop into the Decentraland chat with you guys and start funneling more people into that private channel.

@Platosbuilder - I believe I made you and admins so if anybody else from the community wants to join the district, feel free to invite them. I will be reaching out to you soon enough as well! I'm getting all of your emails and thank you very much for them! :)
