The Forest

Title: The Forest (actual name can change in the future depending on a location, size, look, etc). Description: Just a bit of quiet, wild and beautiful nature in the crowded and noisy city. Project Lead: None yet. I'm just proposing the district. Team: None yet. Goal: A place to wander, calm and get distracted from the city Category: Public LAND Needed: The more the better. Let the wild forest grow! Startup Costs: To be estimated. I'm not a VR-developer so I don't know. How will funds be raised: Crowdfunding I guess. In case we really need it. How will contributors see a return value: The easily accessible nature raises the value of the urban area. Attachments / Designs / Budgets: None

The main idea is to bring a piece of the nature to the city. Experts in urban environment agree that the nature easily accessible in urban areas raises the quality of life. I guess in VR world the rule is the same.

We can grow a forest with diverse sights, nature and species for recreational and educational purposes. Maybe even a commercial duck hunting, who knows :) Another interesting idea is personally planted trees.

Why the forest? Because in the trees you almost completely isolated from buildings with unlimited height.

@seekr well, I did not imagine any buildings in the area, just a rough nature.
Maybe we can allocate a part of the forest for a tree-village (I like the idea) if we get a lot of land. But I really want a big wild forest first of all.

I invite you to consider having this district near or adjacent to the Decentraland Conference Center, which I also anticipate being green, trees, low density development. Being able to walk from there into the forest would be wonderful, and vice versa. I've already spoken to the lead on the Decentraland University, and we too are considering locating nearby.

I love the idea. I started because of the toke social district to learn blender and one of the first things I tried was a tree.

I think people in the future of decentraland definitely need this project. I want to have a beautiful forest where I can relax and walk. If with a cute girl (whose avatar has animal-like ears), it will be great. hahaha

Would you consider expanding this into a biome project where there is one district to represent major earth biomes? That way people could experiences different natural environments, and students could explore and learn about actual fauna and flora.

Hi @Paradigm-Aethyrs, and thanks for your interest, the idea is cool but it requires a lot of space. At first stages we could probably make the district or its part a kind of a botanical garden.

It would be great if we could have 1 district for each Earth biome. We could call it "The VR Biome Project" and we could have middle and high school students research and design the districts. I bet some of them could even create 3D assets. It would bring huge publicity to include schools as an educational VR experience. I think this could garner enough support to get funding for all the land.

1 We are the aesthetically pleasing areas players run in between the big cities.

2 In many mmorpgs, forests or "The Wilds" (proposed named change) is where most of the game playing actually takes place.

3 Monster spawns, random loot spawns, the wandering merchant that sells rares, the rare monster or item that must be spawned. These are the places it happens.

4 1 thing is for sure: We must find a way to make it rewarding to walk through the wilds, without making it too risky. There must be risk, however.

5 An example profit situation is one where we have thieves hat steal MANA from players, however, we must make it rewarding or the player would never come to the forest. So if the thief is killed the player gets the month. The balance should be roughly 60/40 in our favor or we will lose money and constantly managed as players discovers exploits, etc... this is just an example that may or may not work but there are many ideas we could come up with.

The project is open to contributions. I personally have no time to develop it at the moment, but if I find someone who wants to invest their time, bears interesting design ideas (aligned with the Forest's goal) and has sufficient skills to implement them - then, I am ready to discuss a partnership, even provide a paid job.
