Portals & Auxilliary Worlds #119

Just so this idea never gets patented... By anyone!

To protect from patent-trolling, anywhere where I refer to Decentraland, this would be applicable to any other VR-type world. Decentraland as a company nor anyone else owns the right to this idea and it should be considered CC protected from the time of this publication. Any patent submitted after the publication should be considered void.

Anywhere in a metaverse or Decentraland, someone could place a portal, if they are the land owner.

Portals would be gates, whose door-frame could be designed by the creator of the Auxilliary world they link to.

A portal would be rendered as a door-frame, and possibly, like a window into a static preview-rendering of the world they link to. (an efficient way would be to have the destination world render a camera with a depth channel)

Portals work like web-links, creating a stack of teleportation, so many gates could be created that lead to the same entry-point in the Auxilliary World. When you walk back you go to the place you entered from.

Portals can also be used for teleportation in the root-world (Decentraland)

Auxilliary worlds are full worlds that can have their own lobbys, rules, etc.

With auxilliary worlds the decentraland LAND could become a big lobby of a potentially infinite amount of worlds.

Auxilliary worlds could link to other auxilliary worlds through portals

Anyone can link to an auxilliary world by default, unless the aux world contract has declared that only one portal is valid, but it would be up to the client to enforce this.

An aux world could have its own contract and ruleset, with plasma chains, an aux world could be an entire minecraftesque mmorpg, or something like world of warcraft.

Aux worlds could be the creators and issuers of certain items that have scarcity, creating value.

Aux worlds could have their own tokens.

When a user enters an aux world they effectively give over control from the Decentraland ruleset to the one declared from the aux world.

An aux world would probably inherit its ruleset from Decentraland, it would have to be overridden by the owner/creator to change it. This is for convenience.

As long as the swarm/ipfs hash containing the assets needed for an aux world are available, they would accessible.

Personally I think this would start to render the purpose of Decentraland useless, almost as if you gave Bitcoin the ability to create infinite coins instead of capping them at 22 million. However i do agree that there should be 'portals' in side of shops and buildings which lead into (possibly) centralized mini-worlds which could either be a videogame or a website (VR or not). But they should be centralized so that decentraland proper remains finite.

The internet is inifinite and there are pros and cons associated with that. Decentraland is kinda of like a new mini-internet, but the IMO the secret sauce is that there is limited land. Thats the whole point.

Why would it make it useless? There's still need for a central-lobby, a landing place... Also, why make something artificially scarce when there is no actual need for it?

It's as if you had a magical robot that could create anything out of thin air and go... "I need to cap the amount of stuff this makes because otherwise it devaluates the stuff it makes"... Virtual land only has value relative to its accessibility...
