Wormhole Adjacency an elegant solution to multiple problems #27

Purpose:

Protocol level voluntary tile whitelist/blacklist overlay compatibility WITH tile skipping capability. Introducing a whole new type of adjacency.

suggested term: Wormhole Adjacency

Description:

If i am on tile 0,1 and want to get to tile 0,3 but tile 0,2 contains content i do not wish to associate with. A user selected blacklist overlay that allows me to skip tile 0,2 and experience the adjacency as 0,1 to 0,3 directly.

This could allow innovative designs where half a building could be built on tile 0,1 with an open side facing toward the other half on 0,3, users could then activate the blacklist or rather "wormhole adjacency" overlay for skipping 0,2 and the two building halves would function as adjacent. To users viewing from the outside they could just see an avatar walking inside the building(0,1) towards the open cross-section of the building only to appear instantly on the other sides open cross-section(0,3)

This overlay adds a whole new value to any real estate as the number of adjacent tiles to any other Land is equal to the total number of tiles directly in the x and y axis . This same wormhole adjacency would be even greater with hexagonal tiles. With wormhole adjacency the more land is added on the x,y axis your tile is on the more potential connections and interesting possibilities creating network effects. Every tile has a unique set of WH-adjacentcies so this doesnt break the non fungible characteristics of the Land. This opens faster travel and unique travel pathways.

Realestate would then be as valued not just for direct contact adjacency, but row and column adjacency. This will enhance user experience and create a more diffused and unpredictable value distribution helping to prevent over-concentration of power and wealth.

This would allow decentraland to have a many configurations simultaneously with each user being able to customize their experience.

Individuals could create unique overlay masks that reconfigure the subjective experience of decentraland without actually altering the city as a whole, without violating others freedom of experience or expression.

Unique overlay masks would likely be traded commercially. Randomized overlays could be generated as well to help people discover new content and experiences.

Potentially dynamic active overlays, that switch as you change tiles, could be developed to make entirely unique city configuration experiences. One could potentially create an overlay that brings together many children friendly tiles while completely avoiding them accidently stumbling into the brothel district which will surely exist.

Wormhole Adjacency could also solve transportation problems by allowing discontinuous roads/transport routes to function as continuous, helping to solve problems with hold outs blocking pathways. Simply activate correct overlay for the route.

This bottom up solution allows maximum freedom, personal experience customization and voluntary association with out top down authority or central planning while introducing a multidimensional geographical complexity that is only possible in the virtual world.

I like this idea a lot. :+1 from me.

I guess it's interesting to think about, I just have a feeling it won't work in practice. I much prefer the continuity between tiles directly.

Really interesting proposal! I'm helping with the VR Visions Program and would like to get some additional info. Are you on Decentraland's Slack? If not, please join and reach out to me, @ekelmenson.
