Decentralized Religion #29

Name: The Teachings of Bacchus

Description: "In the sphere of thought, sober civilization is roughly synonymous with science. But science, unadulterated, is not satisfying; men need also passion and art and religion. Science may set the limits to knowledge, but should not set the limits to imagination." - Bertrand Russell (A History of Western Philosophy pg 16)

Without the spiritual self, the substance of who I am, and who you call yourselves, holds no value. What would make this virtual reality stand out over any platform that has ever existed?

I see an opportunity. Rather than diving into a reality unlike our own in which we forget our sense of self and let go of the person we are, I suggest we create one were we learn to understand what is means to be alive.

Forget your prejudices of religion, spirituality and soul. These squishy terms have been tainted by the Roman Catholic Church, and cultural appropriation. The former, an example of using the intensity of our curiosity of existence for means of gaining power. The modern way of teaching ignorance. Let me define spiritual as the act of contemplation of thinking of oneself as or in a larger whole. Think of religion as being a set practices and a community to better pursue this. Let the soul be something undefined, that we want to know more about. The goal is to be both analytical and holistic to gain an integral perspective.

How do we bring a sense of otherworldly (religion) to a new virtual world?

We have our avatars, our land, our objects. These will all be easily created in game. We need to create something beyond the visuals, a community. This is a world where there are no conflicts, rather than making conflicts, and starting wars, lets build and create.

We need to keep some sort history book to create a past and future for our new colony. We can be mythic in a world where science is useless. We are the gods who created this world, lets act like Homer a bit.

We should have idols and symbols that represent virtues, beliefs, and leviathans (Hobbes). Walking into this that there are no right or wrong answers, and making sure we do not create us vs them dynamics. Create a new platform for memes (Richard Dawkins) to live in.

Lets create a questioning about what it means to exist in a metaphysical world, rather than ignoring it. We need to pursue the thoughts towards the direction of: "Who am I?" and "What do I want?"

I will come back to write more examples of how to build a meta-religion that provokes self-growth and internal reflection because THAT would be a fun game. #StanleyParable

I like this. Reminds me of an interesting read I came across a bit back: https://qualiacomputing.com/2015/11/27/google-hedonics/

I like where this is going! I'm helping out with the VR Visions Program. Have you joined Decentraland's Slack? If not, please do so and reach out--@ekelmenson. I have some additional questions.

The ideals of Manifest Destiny need not apply in a world that cannot be conquered. And the promise of paradise in Heaven is moot when raw creation is gifted to the masses. What then will our purpose be? A perfect tile of LAND for all to see? A common goal among the community to keep our idle hands in flux? Or maybe our real world talents will manifest in new and exciting ways as the limits of our imagination and creativity are truly tested. Who then goes to the museums when everyone is an artist? Who listens to the musicians when everyone is performing? What great tragedy will inspire the masters of this world? We may find that conflict ripe with War is a necessary evil of Humanity. That a common purpose to overcome evil is not only necessary but eagerly sought. Never forget that Christianity would not have become a religion without the sins of man. So then a world void of sin is also void of forgiveness. Pray then for sin. Pray for war. Pray for conflict and struggle. Pray for the intangibles that are missing from our paradise. These are the things we creators cannot or will not create. And these are the things that will decide humanity's true purpose. Humanity's true self. Creator or Destroyer?

Sign me up for this! I would love to help build a multi faith setting, where every denomination can ring their horns of salvation, repentance and peace. Please keep me informed.

It would be cool to see a virtual world that comprises all of the megastructures and scenes described in various religions. The 7x7x7 mile square golden cube of Heaven in the book of revelations for Christianity, the Aztec Mictlan, Gan Eden of Judiasm, Fólkvangr of Norse Mythology, the The Fields Of Aaru of Egyptian Mythology, Vaikuntha of Hinduism, Tir Na Nog of Irish Mythology, The Otherworld of Celtic Mythology, Elysium of Greek Mythology, and the Cockaigne of Medieval European Mythology. I'm sure there are many others I'm unaware of.
