The proposed template has been excerpted from DIF Membership Agreement and Project Charter v. 4.0.2 _draft.pdf, which is the latest JDF version DIF uses.

Justification

The current WG Charter Template[1] in DIF’s github org repo is out of date. It appears to originate from JDF 4.0.1, which is the previous DIF project charter.

Further evidence that the proposed template is the latest version can be seen with the 2 versions of the Applied Crypto WG – V1 reflects the earlier version and V2 reflects the proposed.

Impact

It appears that all of the WG templates uploaded to DIF’s github “org” repo (under WG documents) use effectively the proposed template, with only trivial differences.

Followup Required

• TSC confirm this decision and/or suggest any changes in suggesting mode
• Update the current charter template in github
  • Question: Since most of the WG charter isn't intended to be edited, should we suggest that proposers simply specify relevant parts (group name, scope, ...), rather than asking them to directly edit the template? Then we can merge these into the full WG charter template before final signing, to ensure no unintentional edits slip in.
• Ensure TSC, DIF core team, and broader community knows where to find the latest version
