Music Room #11

Ideas for the music room:

Performances - every day from lets say about 3pm to 8/9 pm Jam session - every day different people leading the jam (before or after the last performance) Workshops - this should be opened for more hours during the day, starting for ex at 12am until the 1st show

For ex. - lets say Pierre Burel - who's building interesting unusual instruments, could stick around with his stuff and get people involved into this world. Next day the guys, who are building their own loop stations and more. Might be interesting to not just watch their performance, but also to talk to them.. I think it can be also interactive.

Musicians I have in mind for now:

Pierre Burel

Cimon Smid and his collective - very oriental, alternative "techno"

Mini - she's also sometimes performing alone, that's what id try for

Stephen Paul Tyler - guess I don't have to introduce this legend

Lizzy and the Palm (as Chris asked for)

Cam El Nino

have some more in mind, but these I should definitely try to get. Also, what do u think about having someone from a different scene - like jazz? would that be too much for hackers? I know some pretty good names ;)

My idea is something like: 12 am - workshop and a show afterwards 4pm - solo show 6pm - solo show 8 pm - "headliner" 10 pm - jam

We can talk about different time schedule, this is just the example for now.

We could have a "moving piano" - Nicholas could play short performances all over the fabric. It would be also a way to advertise out 3rd floor.

My main question now is, from what time till what time we wanna fill the room with music. And also whether the program is gonna be changing with other room (like with the room with that "silent performance") or whether the program should keep going independently on other rooms.

Another question- is every room gonna be streaming independently? Is Anton gonna be involved in camera?

About the sound improving installations, im working on some ideas. Something like few moving "screens", that are also designed as a piece of art.

Hi @victoriapriester thanks for this. Some questions:

  1. need invoice from all artists and you, anyone that requires payment. Are you able to provide?
  2. Need you to draft an estimated budget you envision for the room
  3. Moving piano in facilities is not possible, as room is under construction and we need to minimize risks - Factory will strive to finish but cant assure this
  4. I like jazz a lot!
  5. @chrishobcroft need to check livepeer availability - please note we need livepeer on Friday and Sunday for the conferences and presentations - but you know that already.
  6. Sound improving installations - please bear in mind this is a hackathon, so high volume won't be loved. Improved sound obviously minimizes noise. Please add to budget.

Responding to 5:

Ideally, I would like to be able to livestream from each room with a fixed webcam, which is just left in one place to run, and be available on e.g. ethberlin.com/livestream (I am talking to Alexandra about the webpage bit).

But the focus is primarily on engaging, entertaining and inspiring the local audience (hackers), and secondarily is around sharing with a wider audience via livestream.

As for the conferences and presentations, I was loosely aware of the streaming required for Friday, but Sunday I was not aware of the requirement for this.

@mariapaulafn if you have time, please can you share the schedule for the "formal" parts of the event, so that I can arrange for livestreaming - including times, content, and locations (I believe there are two?). Thanks

Hi @mariapaulafn. Yes I can provide the invoice. Im sure most of the artist will be able to do as well. I will try to establish the budget. Then I start contacting the musicians. About the moving piano, I ment moving through different floors, not around our music floor. Maybe like in hallways, or wherever some free spot will be.

mariapaulafn commented 5 years ago

@chrishobcroft schedule is in the website :) https://ethberlin.com/schedule and the locations too

@victoriapriester unfortunately, all artists will need to invoice, no wavering here. Moving music: we cannot operate under the assumption that all hackers like that music, like music or whatnot. Culture will stay in one room, to preserve their focus.

victoriapriester commented 5 years ago

Alright. Ill make sure there will be invoices. And we won't move the piano then.

Here is my concept of the program and my ideal budget. If this isn't workable for you, propose the number that is and I will get back to you immediately for what I think is reasonable for that amount.

PROGRAM

Friday 4pm - show 6pm - show 8pm - show 10PM - Main Show - headliner

Saturday 12pm -3 pm - workshop/session 4pm - show 6pm - show 8pm - Main show

Sunday 12- 4pm - workshop/ session

BUDGET - 3 780 Euro

Main shows - 150 Euro x2 shows Workshop - 150 Euro Pierre, Cimon + crew - 400 Shows - 80 Euro x 5 shows

Sound man - 200 per day (2 days) Camera - 200 per day (3 days)

Room acoustic treatment - Molton - 2 pieces 3x3 = 100 Euros - from Molton markt.de tape/ twine- etc 30 Euro Carpets - can we borrow??

Food and drinks for the artists - 200 Euro

Artistania installation - ?? waiting for the response

My price: Travels- equipment - sound -streaming - organizing - 20 per hour

PS. if we wanna have more artists/shows, we can fill the program more, but we will need to adjust the budget as well.

Hi @victoriapriester just a heads up, we cannot enter the room until 6:30 pm on Friday, those are Factory rules. Please update the budget based on this.

Your rates are reasonable and you have put a fair amount of work and tasks there, so that's accepted.

The artists will be able to eat and drink where everyone else does, at the ground floor, we have catering includes, please update that too.

Sunday might be underpopulated, please try to keep that budget smaller. 50% of the total budget going to one room is not so reasonable. We have 5 rooms and 8.500 €.

Then we need to pay for your rates, Stina's and whatnot. Please revise the room budget it cannot exceed 1500 €. I believe that taking Friday off, cutting down the food as its covered by the hackathon can reach the budget

victoriapriester commented 5 years ago

Alright. Adjusting the budget. Can we get to the room the day before to set up the sound installations?

mariapaulafn commented 5 years ago

I believe since it is an empty space, we can get there in the AM on Friday. Sound testing needs to be after 18:30. The building opens at 23hs so this wont be a really big deal

victoriapriester commented 5 years ago

Okay, I mean only to bring the equipment and set it up. We can do the sound later after 6.30.
