On my firestick 4k stick, I cannot scroll down the MAL lists (or select any shows from it). The sub menu does not work either (currently watching, plan to watch, etc.)
On the tv show page, when I navigate to Recommended shows they are not selectable either, but scrolling works.
Work arounds: Using zank android remote screen mirroring, I was able to scroll down and select as it mimics touch screen features. It did not work with the remote app's navigational controls though.
Weirdly, I don't have this problem on my tvs that have the newer firestick 4k max but all of the old firesticks have this problem. I think it is because the newer sticks are running Fire OS 7
