Defining User Base #8

Open syren1 opened 7 years ago

Description

We want to find out what our user base will look like. We want to find out if sporty people will be using it or whether it will be appealing to people who aren't as sporty. The male/female and age demographics will also help us design our app to appeal to our target audience. This is initial user base testing.

Testing Approach

The test is just a simple form so we can obtain demographic and user information. We will send the user a copy of the 1-page concept and get their feedback on that concept. After reading that they will then read and fill out our form. We will evaluate this by looking at the responses to the forms

Evaluation Outcomes

Results: From our testing, we tested on males (73.3%) more than females (26.7%). There was no reason for this other than the fact that more males completed the survey. There were 15 responses to the survey which wasn't as much as we hoped but some people just didn't want to do the survey. The age range was between 15 to 30 with a few out-liers who were older. The users were split (50/50) between regular sports players and non-regular sports players. Only 26.7% of users considered themselves as not sporty with the rest of the users considering themselves sporty or somewhat sporty. All users except one understood the concept of the application. 40% of users thought that this application would be useful in their day to day life. The primary use that users saw for the application (46% of users) was to find a game of sports somewhere near them. Some problems that the users potentially identified were: people faking games for the leaderboard, having a user base significant enough to update the information in the app, difficulties legitimatising game scores or refereeing games, girl only games, as in games that are for girls only as there is differences between girls sports and boys sports, and too many people turning up to one spot. Most users also thought that this app would help the sporting community and get more people to get out there and be active.

Conclusions: Based off these results, we can assume that our average user will be between 15 and 30, will be either sporty or somewhat sporty, and will use the app for it's intended use (to find sports games). Based on the feedback we got from the problems we will make a few changes to the next iterations of prototypes. The first change will be, adding a report player option for people who are faking scores, so players can report cheaters and they will be labelled a cheater and no one will want to play with them. Adding an option somewhere in the application for girl only games, and the issue about too many people turning up to a court isn't an issue that we think needs to be addressed. The point of the application is to find games so if people go and find games then they have used the app for its intended purpose. If the court is too full, they can always use the app to find another, less busy, court.

Surveys are easy for people to ignore - try talking to them face-to-face.
