I like the universe visualisation. Is your whole interaction through the universe metaphor? How is the news initially categorised? I like the idea that its a new visual way to navigate existing news sources. Play with the interface, and the interaction. It will take a few iterations, but it could be a nice peaceful way to catch up with the news.
