Overall, the project has good promise. The idea for a forum in which users can have unbiased discussions about news topics is something that doesn't exist and will allow all types of people to enjoy these discussions.
A few questions, How are users enticed to use this service? Will it be advertised on articles?
Consider using a browser extension that can overlay these discussions when reading an article on a news website or facebook etc. So users don't have to log into sidechat every time.
If a conversation is massively bias it wont show up on the feed (or at least a few pages deep), If a user had an opposite opinion and wanted to help balance this article with their opinion they will not be able to find it.
The browser extension idea is great, and something we hadn't considered. We will put it in the tank but likely won't implement as part of our prototype.

I hope this helps further improve your project.
