[interhelp #28142] Compiling BLAST 2.2.6 Debian #52

Hello,

As I have observed in this thread, Issue 22,
https://code.google.com/p/interproscan/issues/detail?id=22
I am having the blast failure occur during the PIRSF search. The specific
error is "executable not found at /bin/blast/2.2.6/blastall"

of course there is an an executable at this location, it just doesn't work on
my 64-bit Debian machine. I tried finding source code for just this version of
BLAST to recompile but I have had no luck. I have downloaded other
pre-compiled binaries for 64-bit machines that also do not work. Instead I
have only been able to find an old version of the NCBI toolkit in which blast
2.2.6 is supposed to be bundled. However, I am very leary of installing 12
year old software in the hopes that it has the correct version of blast for
PIRSF (it is hard to tell from the documentation). Any suggestions? Thanks.

Dan

Hi Dan,

Thank you for the email. There are some things you could try, documented in
point #3 in our FAQ...

https://code.google.com/p/interproscan/wiki/FAQ#3.What_should_I_do_if_one_of_the
_binaries_included_with_InterProScan_5_doesn%27t_work_on_my_system?

...and the compiling binaries wiki page...

https://code.google.com/p/interproscan/wiki/CompilingBinaries

Hopefully those will fix your issues, let us know if not!

Thanks,

Matt
