Will become much harder with the shutdown of the Ingress forums, potential idea is using the Wayfarer forums instead if it still displays agent name after migration and if there is a way to check without scraping

idea for verification in tiers

Not verified:

Agent can change agent name and faction via site profile
Agent will not appear in or count towards stat page
Agent name on media will be shown as "unknown" if first discovered

Basic:
user downloads iitc plugin
user starts verification process from Ingress.Plus profile
user supplies his current username and faction to site (- if someone else already has the same user name, alert admins for manual verification or tell agent to proceed with advanced verification instead)
site replies with a unique string for the user
user enters string into plugin
plugin sends string together with agent name and faction as reported by iitc to site
site checks if string with reported agent name and faction exists, writes the iitc supplied agent name and faction to the user that belongs to the string and locks manual name and faction edits
agent is counted in stats
if verification string is used in mediagress plugin, assign new media to agent profile (plugin submits data as normal + string to identify)
give agent option to hide or show their agent name on media pages for first discovered assigned to them
show amount of confirmed media collected and first discovered on agent profile
past media are not automatically matched to agent (if agent wants to hide/show their agent name from these, advanced verification is needed to assign them to their profile)

Advanced (Only once every 7 (?) days to avoid admins being spammed, but to allow updates if agent name or faction changes):
User starts strong verification and supplies agent name and faction to site
site replies with unique string (e.g. @[ADMIN ING-NAME] ING+-[COOLCODE})
user copies string and goes to intel/Ingress
user sends string in cross faction comm, tagging one or more of the admins
user returns to site and confirms that message was sent in comm, alerts admins (- send email to agent if admins have not received comm message after agent has confirmed they have sent it, suggesting to check if they have copied the correct string and sent it to the correct comm tab)
admin uses seperate, private iitc plugin that reads their alert chatbox from IITC
if plugin detects "ING+-[COOLCODE]" string, check faction and agent name of sender (cannot be faked by agent as we see it on our end)
plugin again checks string against site and agent name/faction and writes agent name and faction to profile and locks it for manual changes (- send email to agent to inform them that verification has been completed) (- send email to agent if verification has failed (mismatched string to agent name/faction))
if another agent already has the same name, the agent that went through advanced verification has priority as admins have confirmed their verification to be legit, resetting the username of the other person (- sent email to agent that got their username reset to prompt them to verify themselves) (- if basic verification, set verification level of agent that got their username reset to "none" as they likely have manipulated iitc to send a wrong username)
agent is counted in stats
if agent submits new media via their verification string, assign media to their profile
if agent has submitted media in past, automatically assign them to their profile
give agent option to hide or show their agent name on media pages for first discovered
show amount of confirmed media collected and first discovered on agent profile
unlock option to upload images to bug reports (better moderation for admins)

Strong:
if niantic ever offers strong verification via API/other means or via manual verification from admins
if same username already exists, strong verification trumps basic/advanced verification as it is the strongest evidence available
idk dont think we have anything that would need strong verification but would be a good idea to have it build in already for the future
