Rework it with @silatsaif 's feedback. Remember, we're prototyping, so do it fast and cheap. We'll probably change/drop parts of it later.
Planning
[x] Discuss new story and extend game sufficiently
[x] Finalize scope: how much more is there?
[x] Finalize story: due August 1st
[x] How many more quests do we need, roughly? (10 odds and ends)
[x] Solve the Main Problems on paper
[x] More story and backstory: plan it, wiki it
[x] Balance plan: being bad should not make the game too hard because you're weak
[x] Good path: slow + strong attacks
[x] Bad path: fast + weak attacks
[x] Plan what paths exist (more good => opens up, more bad => opens up)
[x] Make the world unique. New monsters (one per area), something about humans.
Implementing: Summary
This is a checklist of things we need to do
[ ] More story and backstory
[ ] 3 new quests
[x] Rage meter
[x] Balance checks for good and bad path
[x] Lock good/bad deeds: must have X good/bad deeds to get access to most quests
[ ] Non-permanent death: wake up 30 minutes later in bed
[ ] Revert cliff scene scenematic (back it up somehow?)
Implement Main Problem solutions
[ ] More story and backstory: in-game, expose it: king ordered the first slaughter, hero saw his family die (when talk to shaykh?)
[x] Implement good/bad deed locks (must have X good/bad to proceed).
[x] Blacksmith (good)
[x] Jinnman (evil)
[x] Healer (good)
[x] Healer/jinnsman quests arcs, only the first quest is locked. If you change alignment in the middle, nothing happens.
[x] Lock out immediately if alignment changes, and resume perfectly.
[ ] Incorporate quirks into game
[ ] "What, seriously?" In flashbacks (no hope, go to this town, etc.)
[ ] "What, seriously?" when they ambush him after 24h
[x] Saif's pre-game changes
[x] Pre-game: black/blurred flashbacks in and out of order (nightmare)
[x] Fix broken maps: make them 20x15 at least (all rooms)
[x] Dream scene: darkness, fires, bodies, black/white dark
[x] Dream scene: lightning
[x] Dream scene: blur
[x] Dream scene: text
[x] Pre-game: wakes up. "Huh… Huh… These nightmares, there keeping me awake. Then again how can I sleep with the horrific things I have done and who I have become. I have made many mistakes, killed many innocent people of the Raslei and worst of all, I have truly lost my way from the deen of Islam. Will Allah forgive me? I must make amends for my past mistakes and insha’allah be a better person. Maybe this village could be of help, I should see if I can be of service to anyone."
[x] Old lady upstairs in the inn is the wife's owner.
[x] After her "you arrived late," you say "Haha, sorry about that I was travelling quite late and needed a place to stay."
[x] She says " It’s ok my dear, although this is a small village we do occasionally have people coming from far away lands… some hoping for some respite, or to clear their minds and you may find some seeking for the truth or maybe to find a new beginning."
[x] You say "..."
[x] She says "Hahaha, I’m only jesting. But I can see it in your eyes. You have seen many things and have done many things. I may be old but I am no a fool. Anyways I hope what you are seeking for, you will find it soon and be at peace and here, please take this gold to help you get started."
[x] You say "no its ok I'll be fine really"
[x] She says "Here take it, it would be my absolute pleasure. Please."
[x] You thank her for her kind generosity.
[x] End session. Talk again, she's cleaning for the next guest. Such is the life of an inn-keepers wife.
[x] Moral choice
[x] Lock all the inn doors, except one.
[x] Put something inside. You get a choice: take it or leave it?
[x] If you take the stuff, after 6am, someone appears in the inn complaining that someone took their stuff from their room.
[x] Inn Keeper Dialog
[x] Make him old
[x] Him: "Morning young man you seem to be up early considering how late you came in."
[x] You: "Yh I wasn’t able to sleep properly and kept waking up so I thought I’ll get some fresh air."
[x] Him: "That is all and well but please remember, that will be 100G for the stay.*"
[x] Choice to pay or leave. If you leave, he says "That is fine but please make sure you pay before you leave."
[x] Grandson dialog (kid)
[x] Woah, you’re so big! Haven’t seen you around here before. We don’t usually get a lot of travellers ‘round here. My name is …. And this is my and my grandparents inn. Hamdain is a small village but we do get people coming in and staying and also we have a big masjid just outside of the inn, we all worked really hard to build it including me. My granddad says that they couldn’t have finished it without my big muscles.
[x] Hamza: A Masjid? Maybe I should visit there.
[x] Grandson: Yh you should its really beautiful.*
[x] If you discuss with him again: "You should visit the masjid, we all helped to build it."
[x] Door of masjid: relief, "its been a long time since I prayed, but if I start, will Allah forgive me?" and triggers a flashback. Replace this with the imam's flashback.
[x] Stop time when inside
[x] Stop it
[x] Remove masjid transition events
[ ] 4 New quests
[ ] Robbers: stop the house robbers. It's a gang, 2-3 houses they raid. One of them is peer pressured into doing bad things. Help him? Join them?
[ ] Brainstorm!
[ ] Implement rage meter
[x] Rage meter appears when evil
[x] Rage attack skill
[x] Rage attack is only available if you're evil
[x] Rage attack damage scales with your evilness, to a limit.
[x] Rage increases when attacked
[x] Playthrough and make sure being evil is viable
[x] Verify with Saif
[ ] Nerf rage meter
[ ] You don't get game over when you die
[ ] Game over, if it's not yet a day passed, takes you back to bed 30 minutes later
[ ] Implement it: death in battles
[ ] Implement it: jump the cliff
[ ] Implement it: drowning
[ ] This works correctly even if it's your first time in the abandoned house
[ ] This works correctly even if you just tipped the clock over the threshold and it's ending time!
[ ] Quest: The Rare Tree (neutral)
[ ] Find the seed hidden in the forest, there are a few of these
[ ] Plant it in soft and loamy soil, there are a few of these
[ ] Watering can in the barn, fill in the stream
[ ] Water it 3-4 times, and it blooms. Less/more and it dies.
[ ] Achievement: hadith about reward when birds eat from trees or something
[ ] Quest: Abu Dujanah and the Choke Point (good quest-locked)
Bandanna, sword, and ... ayah from the shaykh?
Achievement
[ ] Quest: House Invasion (evil quest-locked)
Three houses, you can try to stop them (works only if you do it three times) or join them (LOOT!!)
Two achievements (stop or join)
[ ] Revert ending
[ ] Figure out how to save the current cinematic or maybe use parts of it?
Deferred
"Good" path
[x] Cliff scene changes
[x] King's Blade shows up in the cliff scene after 24 hours
[x] Cliff scene: tell the King's Blade that the king is bad, he says shhh
[x] Villagers show up, battle, lay smackdown on them (leave them wounded but alive)
[x] They flee to town. Ex-commander gives an explanation about training as a contingency
[x] They will take the fight to him. To the castle~! (Well, sewers.)
Sewers
[x] Basic sewer map.
[x] Fight rats, snakes, alligators, and other stuff in the basements
You can find and free villagers scattered in the various cells here and there. They follow you.
There's an exit you can lead them to, to free them
Going to the exit alone, makes you say that hey, here's the exit
Badge: rescuer guy!
Some perk for each preson you rescue. XP or a stat boost or something.
There are guards. If they see you, they chase, unless you get too far off.
Killing each guard increases you in remorse and regret, but it's necessary to save your life
King's Throne Room
Secret entrance you enter from, which comes from the sewers and arrives close to his room
Maybe a hint to save here.
Cinematic confrontation with the King's Blade
Boss battle. Doesn't have to be balanced.
You spare him, telling him that he, too, can change.. Overcome with jealousy and anger, he refuses, and swears that he'll get revenge, while he runs off.
Epic confrontation with the king. Plead with him to stop and think about his actions. King responds that he knows only that might is right, and attacks. (He wears awesome armour.)
Boss battle
You have to lose, sorry. Your friends show up and sacrifice themselves. (They flank/back-attack him as one. He throws them off, but the third attacker slips through and wounds him critically.)
Boss battle, again. This time, finish him off. You have one friend with you.
Finale: evil black aura leaves his body.
King claims he just didn't want his village to be bullied by other nations and he wanted strong warriors and tells them they made a huge mistake, something even darker is looming.
TO BE CONTINUED~!
"Bad" path.
Cliff scene: kings blade shows up, hero tells him the king is bad, he refuses to listen
Battle -- you won't go that easy. They trounce you.
As they grab you, two villagers (ex-commander and blacksmith) appear (south? hiding)? and discuss what to do with our hero.
You're a bad person, so there's no point trying to save him -- he failed to redeem himself. Unlike some of them.
Jail changes
In jail, you keep yelling and making noise.
The guard tells our hero he'll come over there and make you stop. He does, and the hero kills him. And steals his keys.
He declares his intent for revenge and stalks through the sewers, killing everyone in his path.
He can talk to jailed villagers, but they're scared of him and back away from the cell door, even if he opens it and goes inside. They plea for him to leave them alone.
Confrontation with the king's blade in the throne room
Similar to above: boss battle
You kill him, because he's weak.
The king is proud of how much you've changed.
You tell him to shut up and you fight
He lays a smackdown on you.
First time, a rage meter appears on the map screen, and the hero indicates something about rage only making him stronger.
After the third time, it's full. He charges the king, and does a mega (not the regular) rage attack first thing in battle.
When defeated, the king congrats you and says you're basically him, and ready for the real challenge.
Black aura hovers around the hero. A voice booms out: do you accept the power?
If yes, it tells him to take the throne, and he does. It possesses him. "Hero: ..."
If no, you swing your sword at it and tell it you don't need this power. It calls you a fool and flies off.
You wonder what the king meant about the real challenge beginning.
You see the ex-commander in a log cabin. Someone comes in and tells him that you beat the king.
He looks disturbed, and says he has to replan the entire operation.
TO BE CONTINUED~!
Distinct world
New power, talking avatars, something
New monsters
In the cliff/village area
In the cave
In the sewers
Someone gives lore about what they are
Something new/distinct about humans in this world
Brainstorm and implement. eg. tails
Apply it to the final castle area's guards.
New deeds (do we need this?)
Healer: mushrooms for healing? Potions? Herbs?
Blacksmith: ore for shields, not swords. Redemption! Where do you hide the pickaxe?
Rework it with @silatsaif 's feedback. Remember, we're prototyping, so do it fast and cheap. We'll probably change/drop parts of it later.
