The aim of this project is to develop a system that integrates with an open-source plagiarism detection server to help authors identify and cite all sources that overlap or intersect with the content of their articles. This will facilitate transparency and proper attribution in academic and non-academic writing.
Objectives
Integrate with the open-source plagiarism detection server for content scanning.
Identify all potential source intersections with the given article text.
Generate a list of citations for sources that are similar to the content.
Provide an interface for writers to review detected sources and add citations.
Required Steps
System Design:
Define the workflow between the article writing platform and the plagiarism detection server.
Establish criteria for what constitutes as a 'source intersection'.
Integration Development:
Develop the system to send article content to the plagiarism detection server.
Parse the returned results to detect similar content from various sources.
User Interface:
Design a user-friendly interface where writers can see potential intersecting sources.
Allow writers to select which sources they want to cite or explore further.
Citation Generation:
Implement a citation generation tool that supports multiple citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).
Ensure that citations can be easily inserted into the article.
Testing and Quality Assurance:
Conduct thorough testing of the integration and citation features.
Collect user feedback on the interface and workflow.
Documentation and Training Resources:
Create documentation explaining how to use the system.
Provide tutorials and examples for authors to learn how to manage citations.
Deployment and Maintenance:
Prepare the system for deployment in an actual writing environment.
Plan for ongoing maintenance and updates based on user feedback and citation style changes.
Desired Outcome
Offer a tool that assists writers in adhering to best practices for citing sources, ensuring their work is well-researched and properly credited.
This issue welcomes the community's input on feature requests, UI/UX designs, and development collaboration. If you're passionate about improving the writing process and upholding the integrity of written work, we would love to hear your thoughts on this project.
