hello @deepayan , I have just discovered lattice and it is GREAT!! I think it is a perfect complement to ggplot in the sense that it works really well with time series.

Just wondering: is the project still alive? I dont see any activity since October.

I think the project is more than alive. It is mature enough to not need to be continuously developed.

Sure, but it's basically in maintenance mode (it's almost 20 years old). I usually fix non-serious bugs only after a few have accumulated :-)

are you affiliated with latticeExtra or its an independent spinoff?

It's a spinoff by me meant for extensions and experimental stuff (lattice was originally a reimplementation of Trellis Graphics in S-PLUS). Felix Andrews (who no longer works with R unfortunately) made lots of significant contributions, in particular the ggplot2-style layering.
