Feature Request: Icon Share Link #18

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

Stress the need to share the link icon.
Clicking the link will be copied to the clipboard. Link link could be
independent, viz that he could see the picture of the public view, anyone who
has the link regardless of access rights.

It is important to be able to limit access to this feature per Joomla user.

Reagrds!

This proposal covers a request to introduce a feature similar to how Picasa
controls album visibility. Picasa features four visibility levels, "Public",
"Limited anyone with the link", "Limited" and "Only you". Currently, the
sigplus access control system is heavily based on the core Joomla access
control system, and has modes very similar to "Public", "Limited" and "Only
you" visibility settings in Picasa. In fact, viewing the gallery is limited to
those who can view the content item in which the activation tag is injected,
whereas options "download" and "metadata" have access levels of their own.

"Limited anyone with the link" in Picasa is what the feature request seems to
be after. Unfortunately, this appears to go beyond the capabilities of the
Joomla access control system, which uses cookies (session identifiers) to
differentiate users (after they have logged in). There is no mechanism to "get
around" access control by automatically "logging in" if you have a specially
crafted direct link. In other words, if such a mechanism were existence, it
could be applied to sigplus; in the lack of such a mechanism, however, the
feature request is difficult to put into operation.
