Expected behavior

We want to update the API such that the feedback fom the test subjects is applied.

Actual behavior

none

Steps to reproduce this behavior

first do the tests, then analyze the code, then refactor.

Definition of done

This issue is solved when :

The refactored code has no PMD findbug or checkstyle errors
it does not breaks the build
the PR gets accepted
the tests are adjusted
