Sounds good, but how that would affect multiplayer?
Is it possible to pause multiplayer game, by both/all players? If not, this
change would cause imminent desynchronization in MP game.

of course multiplayer should remain as is. otherwise, making the game pausable
in MP should be selectable as a map option to avoid conflict.
Mainly for Single player pausing.

Yes but the menu is inaccessible when paused. This is so that the game pauses
when making saves or tweaking settings.

I don't think it's a good idea to provide different behaviour in MP and SP game
in this case.
Sub-menus make the game pause, it should be enough - if a player is in a hurry,
he/she can just select an option quickly.
