A simple dash ability with a relatively long (5 seconds?) cooldown could add a lot of depth to the game. This game heavily lacks in the "closing the distance" department, even now with Shooriken and Berserker added. A dash would solve that quite nicely, while also not wasting a perk slot and taking some actual skill to use.
Ideally, this would be a default ability, i.e. not something you need to equip, but something everyone can do.
To prevent counterdashing (enemy dashes towards you, you immediately dash away), it would be viable to also add 1 second of cooldown to the dash of all enemies close by after you finish your dash.
