Hi, thanks for your interest in adding your city to the website. Emails on defund12.org are all written by community members. To add your city, you must provide:

Message: (Don't forget to replace the [x]'s with your information!)

My name is [YOUR NAME], and I am a resident of the City of Albany. I am demanding that the city of Albany adopts a budget that will put precedence over the prosperity of the citizens in our community and the $31 Million police budget be reallocated into more affordable housing, higher job wages, youth programs, mental health programs, healthy food access, child care, homelessness, and criminal justice reform. The police and Sheriff's department already receives Federal and State aid amounting around $200,000.00 for police centric services. Not to mention the supplies and materials budget line of $374,44 and contracted services of $1,652,822. It is not the time to be socially progressive but fiscally conservative. We all know APD does not need a tank, full-body armor, or tear gas against its residents. The police are not social workers or property managers; they also do not live in the communities they serve. They do not need to be the first response to every crisis.

Also, the hardship of COVID-19 this year will have all people struggling, whether it be financially, emotionally, or mentally we need community support to survive. Every citizen had to make sacrifices to combat the Corona Virus; the police department should do the same they have the most and need to help our residents. Police reform is only as good as its officer. It has upheld its deep roots of racism and white supremacy, no matter the color of the officer's skin. More money into training or cadet cop programs will not change the malevolent history of policing and will continue to terrorize and traumatize the residents in our community. You cannot look to the future if you do not acknowledge our past. We are not a large city; we have an opportunity to make an impactful change and the possibility for others to look at our community as an inspiration for what is capable and just. There are more to black and brown lives then murals on the street. Please keep in mind that you always invest in people.

Thank you for your time, [YOUR NAME][YOUR ADDRESS] [YOUR EMAIL][YOUR PHONE NUMBER]
