Vollkorn Bold-bug #37

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Use the font Vollkorn (normal and bold) from google font directory
2. Write a paragraph of text.
3. Bold a word somewhere in the middle of the paragraph.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The word should be simply bolded and not affect anything else.
But Vollkorn Bold seem to have a diffrent built-in line-height which I can't
change with CSS (you can see it when highlighting the word with the mouse).
This creates a horizontal "gap" in the paragraph.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I've seen the same results in firefox, chrome and safari (not safari on iPhone).

Please provide any additional information below.

I can confirm this bug in Firefox 3.6.13 on Windows 7, though the rendering is
fine on Arch Linux.

I can confirm this is also a bug and depending on the combination of browser
version and operating system used, is so in both Firefox and Google Chrome. I
have tested on a variety of machines and is only duplicated in certain
instances. So not sure why???????

A simple workaround is to use the the font squirrel font-face kit,
http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Vollkorn. Although this requires that the
font be uploaded onto the server...

We also notice this bug. Vertical spacing issue in Firefox v3.6.13 on Windows.
Looks fine on OSX. Hope Google fixes this, as we like using this font!

There also seems to be an issue with using vollkorn in Safari (on osx), the
interspacing is slightly off. In firefox it is beautiful!

Still present, Oct 2012. This is pretty annoying.

Hi Guys,

+1 for the FontSquirrel fix by RickGibb. I used the English subset on
FontSquirrel and it produced a beautifully normalised font across every browser
and operating system!

I only wasted about 8 hours trying to fix the problem by setting custom
line-heights using PHP OS detection. Horrible!

Font is pretty much unusable with this behavior. Upsetting that this is not
fixed after 3 full years.
