closes #28

two tests seem to be failing, but they also fail on master. I'll tackle them in a different PR, maybe later today

now core needs to handle those, also maybe there is an api documentation somewhere that needs to be updated, idk what the mailed docs contain, but if they don't contain this already it would make sense to add an api documentation section.
