The attached patch makes the LaTeX output support implicit header
identifiers in the same way that the HTML output does. I haven't tested it
that much.

Thanks for the patch!  It compiles fine and looks good.  When I get some time, 
I'll
think about integrating it into the trunk.  I do want to think a bit more about
how the cross-references should look.  Normally, I prefer referring to section
numbers rather than page numbers.  But of course, the default in pandoc is not
to number sections.  Another issue is that using "p." or "pg." to mark page
numbers is English-centric, and I want people to be able to use pandoc in
whatever language they like.  If you have further thoughts on this, perhaps
it would be worth starting a thread on pandoc-discuss?
