MyHeritage and phased kits #1

Hello, thank you very much for this tool. I have available my kit (MyHeritage), brother (Ancestry) and mother (FTDNA). I tried reconstructing missing father's kit using Borland tool. There's no problem with uploading to GEDmatch but I noticed a few problems with MyHeritage.

  1. It is not possible to upload reconstructed father's kit to MH at all. Even when converted using this tool, it ends up with "Invalid kit" error after several hours of processing.
  2. Uploading brother's phased paternal kit ends up with "Invalid kit" error.
  3. I successfully upload my phased paternal kit. But the results are horrible. There are only 171 matches on this phased kit (original kit has 3841 matches) Lots of valid matches is missing. Lots of matches are incorrectly 20-30 cM smaller. I believe it is not problem with phased kit itself but buggy MyHeritage matching algorithm.

Hi BigMuscle85,

Nice to see someone actually uses my code :-)

In my use case I had a DNA kit from my father, and a DNA kit from my mother, as well as a DNA kit of myself. I don't know how compatible / complete utilizing a reconstructed kit would be. 171 matches does sound awfully low. My ~6000 matches will translate to 1000 matches on my paternal kit and 1000 matches on my maternal kit.

It is quite normal that a significant number of matches drop off, however. As I understood a fair amount of MH matches are false positives.

To see why your result is different I would like to inspect your raw DNA files. Are you able to send them to me via e-mail? dennis < at > drvink.com
