Git is rock-solid and is developed and supported by whole teams of people. Git-annex is awesome and has served us really really REALLY well, but it's the work of a single developer (the amazing Joey Hess) in Haskell, a rather obscure programming language, so it has a rather high bus factor. It might be a good idea to look at alternatives, just in case.
My favorite alternative so far is git-fat, a Python project: https://github.com/jedbrown/git-fat
It hasn't seen action in awhile, but it does have a number of forks, three of which have been more active.
