@snobleaws are you suggesting that we can accomplish this feature by developing intelligible documentation for the system upgrade process? I would agree that a documentation fix may resolve this issue partially, however there is still a question of configuration persistence which would include any additionally installed packages.

A documentation fix is a good first start but isn't going to completely solve this issue. To be honest though you will have the same issue on any switchdev hardware because a configuration persistence mechanism really is a "value added" piece of tooling that needs to be built.
