5 years ago Appeals Use Case:
- Digital Service at the Board of Veterans' Appeals, working on Caseflow Hearing Schedule, an application to take over the scheduling of Veterans for Board hearings with Veterans Law Judges.
- ~ 30,000 Veterans have hearings per year, a backlog of ~ 80,000 hearings.
- Our application mixes both legacy appeals and new appeals under the Appeals Modernization Act.
- The Board is to take over all scheduling on February 14, 2019 (AMA implementation).
- VBA Regional Benefit Offices have been scheduling and also using alternate hearing locations, so that Veterans don't have to travel great distances for their hearing, but can instead have it at outpatient clinics.
- Regional Offices staff knew where locations mapped to or looked up in google to see how far it would be for a Veteran to travel.
- Our application will use the Vet360 address validation to get end points for a Veterans address, so that we can then match them to VA facilities that hold Board hearings.
- We'll show in our application UI the "Suggested Hearing Location" and the mileage, so that they can organize Veterans by location.
On 1/14/19 We will have a call with the Vet360 folks to discuss our use case for the address validation.
This meeting is with Vet360, the API Gateway, and the Appeals teams to discuss Appeals use case for the Address Validation service and what needs to happen to move to production.
